“Creepy Mannequins” or “Genius Visual Marketing”?

“Creepy Mannequins” or “Genius Visual Marketing”?

Here’s a question for you to ponder. Why do clothing stores use mannequins? Especially those without arms or heads. Creepy.

Well they wouldn’t do it if there were not a good reason behind it. Those mannequins allow customers to subconsciously picture what the product might look like on themselves. The first step in purchasing is almost always visual. Mannequins also highlight a product in a different type of visual space than just folded on a shelf on or a hanger, shifting the paradigm.

There are two major factors in a marketing strategy; the visual and the emotional. A good visual can invoke deep emotion, and a well scripted emotional message can elicit visual memories. Combining visual and emotional is extremely powerful in marketing.

This explains why visual media such as Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube are so popular. Visuals and emotions allow consumers to relate to the message very quickly and they are more apt to share the message if they can make a personal connection with it.

I am now combining my years in the foodservice industry with my experience in marketing and have started consulting for restaurants. Because imagine how powerful the message can be when they combine visuals, emotions, and delicious food.

Not creepy at all.
