Weekly thoughts from a BNI Chapter President
Thank God that’s over.
The first week of BNI Chapter President. Oh, it went great, don’t get me wrong. But the pressure I put on myself to make sure everything was perfect was incredible. Really only a couple minor things to adjust before next week.
About halfway through the meeting I realized that I was doing fine and that it was ok to relax a little. I stood at one point to start the next section of the meeting and paused to look around the room. Under normal circumstances, one might be afraid the people in the room were being judgemental while they stared at me in anticipation. Someone said, “It’s ok to breathe.” I jokingly said, “How am I doing? I guess I can exhale now.” I looked over at one of our members, Nate. I think he said, “You’re doing great!” but also gave me an encouraging smile. These people are my friends and even if I had fallen flat on my face, it would have been fine because they wanted me to succeed even more than I did. They would have been forgiving and supportive. Heck, there are three past Presidents in the room and any one of them would have jumped in if I had fainted.
But that didn’t happen. I didn’t expect it to, really. There really was no worst case scenario because my team wouldn’t have let it happen. They always have my back and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
