Start the Applause
Weekly thoughts from a BNI Chapter President
People never know when to clap. You’ve seen it. Maybe it was in church after someone sings or at a meeting when someone shares some heartfelt sentiments. People feel like they want to acknowledge to emotions they are feeling, but never seem to know when it’s appropriate to start clapping.
I feel particularly frustrated when for whatever reason, no one claps at the moment when I want to. Why do we hesitate? And why do we all wait for someone else to start the applause? It’s silly. Just clap!
I have made a decision that from now on I will start the applause, regardless of whether anyone else claps or not. Clapping is an outward expression of appreciation and gratitude. There is nothing wrong with clapping. In fact, there should be more clapping. Follow me, I’m clapping!
This world is hungry for leaders. We need people who will go out and take action and lead others into the world to make it better. Most people want to be a prince, but very few people are willing to kiss the frog. I have noticed that people look to me for leadership in various ways. This year I embark on a President’s role in my local BNI Chapter, Alliance for Business Growth.
I believe this will be the most rewarding year of my career. Leading 40+ other business people in a fast-paced, effective networking meeting each week brings together all the elements of life that I love: helping others, success, growth, mentorship, teamwork, relationships, collaboration, goal setting, celebrating, networking, and most of all, support and encouragement.
I hope you enjoy the messages I write each week based on my experience with this new role. I truly wish that by the end of the year, we will have reached a new level of success beyond everyone’s expectations.
I encourage you to start the applause in every situation. It has already made a difference for me.
